What do you do when someone tells you "maybe next time"?
In this episode of The 60 Second Podcast, Matt McCoy sits down with Andrew Woods, Founder & Managing Director of Ask Us Consulting, to hear the story of how he turned repeated rejection into a signed deal.
After hearing "Let's meet when you're in Toronto" three times in a single day, Andrew stopped treating it as a polite brush-off and took action. He booked a flight across the country, showed up with the promised coffee, and walked away with the business.
It's a simple reminder that persistence, initiative, and following through can create opportunities that most people never pursue.
[00:00] Matt McCoy: Andrew, tell me a time you didn't take no for an answer?
[00:03] Andrew Woods:
Well, I got a really good story about that that happened recently. So, where I live in Canada, Vancouver, it's about 2,500 miles from Toronto, so it's kinda like Los Angeles to New York for those of you that are maybe in the US.
And I kept hopping on calls with people trying to sell them some keynote speaking and some training workshops, and the answer I kept getting from people was, "Next time you're in Toronto, let's meet together."
[00:27] Andrew Woods:
So when I heard that three times in one day from people, I said, "Okay."
The next guy I said, "I'm going to book a trip to Toronto, and I'm going to get on a plane, and I'm going to be with you Monday morning at 8:00 AM, and I'll bring a coffee."
The guy looked totally surprised.
I hopped on a plane Sunday night, got to Toronto, brought the coffee that I promised, signed the deal, and it just shows you not to take no for an answer when you're trying to sell.
