What separates winning companies from the ones that stall out? According to Mark O'Donnell, it comes down to one thing: the team.
In this episode of The 60 Second Podcast, Mark shares lessons from building 23 companies, including 9 successful exits, and explains why having the right people in the right seats changes everything. If you're a founder, leader, or entrepreneur trying to scale, this is a must-listen on building teams that actually win.
00:00 - Matt: You've built and exited nine companies, but you've also had ventures that didn't go as planned. What's one experience from those that shaped how you lead today more than any win?
00:16 - Mark O'Donnell: Ultimately it's coming down to the people. So while those nine exits, that's all well and good. There was 23 companies in total that I started. And when you boil it all down, the ones that win and the ones that don't win are really about the team and getting the right people in the right seats. I think so few entrepreneurs, so few leaders, actually ever experience what truly right person in the right seat looks like.
00:45 - Mark O'Donnell: Because when you have it, you have no desire to step in to try to do anything yourself. And that's really the biggest difference. And that's what changed my leadership style. It's continuously evolving, which is a complete obsession over getting all the right people in the right seats.
