00:00 – Matt McCoy:
With Own It now out, what shift do you hope to inspire from women entering the legal profession?

00:07 – Sylvie Rodrigue:
Well, my goal in writing this book was very much to help women live a happy and fulfilled professional life and personal life, to find this balance and to own it. And an important message in the book is how to get there, and it's backed by practical tips.

I firmly believe that there is a myth that women cannot have both a successful career and a successful family life. We often hear that something's got to give. With this book, I hope to help women not wait for permission to lead, to take control of their own life, and to be the master of their own destiny.

I encourage women to ignore the white noise, step outside their comfort zone—which was a big challenge for me—and find champions in their life, both professionally and personally, who can truly have their back and support them.

It’s also important to pace yourself. Entering the legal profession—or any profession—requires understanding that it’s a marathon, not a race. Gratitude matters, and doing something good for your soul every day helps achieve balance. The overarching theme of the book is to take control of your own life—and own it.
