Q: What’s one leadership principle that’s led to your success?
Karlene:
Thanks for that great question, Lori. I always love to talk about leadership because it is the foundation of my business.
One principle that has been instrumental in my success is consistency. I believe every leader should have that as one of their values.
There’s a saying I like to keep in the back of my mind:
“The way you do anything is the way you do everything.”
And I believe that is very true. Consistency for me breeds credibility. It leads to trust, and it leads to reliability. People trust you more.
But everything doesn’t always go as planned. I had to learn to persevere through things when they’re not going my way. And consistency was key in helping me get over those hurdles.
It’s also about learning to tune out the negative voices, doubts, and setbacks—or what we sometimes see as failure—and just focus on the vision I’ve set for myself.
Consistency doesn’t mean doing the same thing day in and day out. It’s about keeping focused on your vision, your goals, your mission. And it’s about showing up every day, regardless of what things look like, with the same passion and dedication you started off with.
For me, consistency has always worked out.
