Two-thirds of businesses fail. Why has yours succeeded? My consulting firm, Citizencentric, has grown 20x in revenue in three years—from having me part-time 10 hours a week to three full-time core employees and 15 extended team members. We're still small by most standards, but we're in the early stages of our journey. I don't know if I’ve succeeded yet, but let’s check back in five years. The key to our growth has been forced focus.

We practice hyper specificity. Every six months, we conduct strategic sprints where we become obsessed with one customer, one problem. In the early days, our focus was the public sector, but within that, we targeted municipalities. This strategic focus made it easy to identify who to spend time with, resulting in market dominance in a niche area.

This relentless focus on a specific market allowed us to scale quickly. Now, we’re receiving a lot of requests to help companies with their AI maturity journey, particularly in building an AI and automation community of practice. That's our focus for the next 12 months: forced focus and hyper specificity.
