In this punchy 60 seconds, she drops a truth bomb about why smart people are automating the wrong way—and how flipping your approach can make AI work for you, not against you.

Matt McCoy:
What’s the biggest mistake smart people make with automation?

Audra:
That's a good question. And we're seeing quite a bit of change coming with AI right now in the market. I would say the biggest challenge I'm seeing with clients is they're trying to automate from the tool and not the task. So let me take a second to break that down.

We have workflows that we do within our business. We're kind of running out there trying to grab the latest, shiniest, quickest tool to be able to add automation to that workflow. But I would suggest you do it the other way around. People are getting super frustrated trying to drive from the tool perspective.

So what I would say is: look at the workflows that you currently have in your business. The tool is irrelevant. Can AI actually help make that process better, smoother, to help your team get better results? If it can, then it's worth looking at implementing AI with it.

If it’s not there yet, leave the process the way it is and continue to grow your business with the resources that you have. The AI will catch up. You just gotta be patient.
